Les Poisson, Les Poisson!

I love Daylight Savings!  Sure, we lose an hour, but in my mind we gain so much more with that extra hour of sunlight.  Hurray for it being light until 7:30 tonight!  It is the first step to spring.

Last year I was really messed up with the time change.  I went to visit my Bestie Lisa in Calgary for the March Break, and Calgary is two hours behind Ontario.  We then drove from Calgary to Revelstoke B.C. the day after I arrived (for some winter adventures) which is another hour behind.

We stayed in Revelstoke for the weekend, and the clock’s went ahead an hour early Sunday morning.  And then we drove back to Calgary on Monday, another hour ahead.  I had no idea what time it was, basically.

This year was much better, but I did find myself saying “but it’s really only…” in my head all day long when I looked at the time.  I woke up at 8:30 this morning (but it was really only 7:30, yikes), and hit up the grocery store early to get it out of the way.  I find if I wait too long to go grocery shopping on Sunday it’s either absolutely rammed and every isle is a shopping cart traffic jam, or it’s empty but all the good stuff is gone and it is slim pickins for the food I like! (like Greek yogurt.)

Since my gym is inside Superstore, I dropped by there after shopping for some cardio action.  I was planning on doing this interval workout on the treadmill, but when I got there it was quite busy and I didn’t see any free machines.  I did 45 minutes on the arc trainer instead.  And then I felt proud of myself for getting the gym out of the way ;).  I was back home by 10:30 (but it was really only 9:30!).  Okay, I’ll stop.

We also hit up Andy-Bob’s parents today, and although they live only 25 minutes northeast of us, it is seriously like visiting another country.  In the city, we now have zero snow, but the view from their back door looks like this:

Sometimes it is all nice and clear and sunny at our house, and we’ll drive up there and all of a sudden SURPRISE BLIZZARD!  Andmo and I lived with them for a year while we were saving up to buy our house, and let me just say I do not miss that drive…


Tonight’s dinner tasted like summer!  I made us tilapia fish tacos with corn salsa.  Fish tacos have been on my radar for a while, but I have actually never tried them!  Something about a fish taco sounds weird to me, but I always hear people raving on about them (like in this scene from I Love You Man) so I decided it was time we gave them a try.

Fish Tacos

Delicious.  I do not know why I haven’t made these sooner.  I found this recipe for fish tacos on AllRecipes, but I modified it a bit after reading reviews and to make it slightly healthier.

Fiery Fish Tacos with Corn Salsa


  • 1 cup corn (I cooked my corn, though it did not say to)
  • 1/2 cup diced red onion
  • 1/2 cup diced red bell pepper
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves, finely chopped (ours was a little cilantro heavy for our tastes, so you could add less)
  • 1 lime, zested and juiced
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper (I used hot red pepper flakes)
  • 1/2 tablespoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 fillets tilapia
  • Sour cream (you know I used plain Greek yogurt ;))
  • Whole wheat flour tortillas, warmed


  1. Preheat grill for high heat (I actually cooked the tilapia on a skillet)
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together corn, red onion, red bell pepper, and cilantro. Stir in lime juice and zest.

  3. In a small bowl, combine cayenne pepper, ground black pepper, and salt.  Spray each fillet with olive oil cooking spray (or brush with olive oil), and sprinkle with spices.
  4. Arrange fillets on grill (or skillet), and cook for 3-4 minutes per side. For each fiery fish taco, top a whole wheat tortilla with fish, sour cream, and corn salsa.

Spicy Yet Refreshing

These were so, so good.  The fish was spicy, but the salsa was cool and refreshing so it really toned the fish down.  It paired well together.  Big fish taco fan right here!

By the way, poisson means fish in French ;).
