The Little Run that Could (and Carba? Nada.)

Bonjour mes amies!

Last night before bed I decided I was going to go for a run this morning, so I set my alarm for 5:30 am.  This morning when it went off I thought “Meh. Boo to running,” shut it off immediately, and rolled over.

But then something happened.  I started to feel a little bit guilty about not running.  I kept thinking about how great it would feel to get home from work this evening and have my run already taken care of.

I went back and forth in my head, but the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to do it.  I forced myself out of bed and into my running clothes.

And then I looked outside and saw that it was raining.  I decided no.  I didn’t want to run in the rain.  So I went back into my bedroom and crawled back into my nice warm bed.

But the same feelings kept creeping back, and I involuntarily started thinking about all my favourite workout mantras “I don’t have to run, I GET to run,” “I don’t have to run fast…” “I’ve never regretted a workout,” etc.

Five minutes later I was up again, and five minutes after that, I was outside running on the sidewalk.

It took me a while to get out there, but I did it!

Surprisingly enough, after I started running I felt awesome!  My run almost felt easy.  And because of the rain it was actually almost cool outside, which was a huge relief compared to the sauna-like outdoor running conditions lately.  I completed 4.5k and felt so proud of myself!

Proud of myself and extremely shweaty (please ignore my greaseball hair.  It’s first thing in the morning.)

Do you ever have an inner struggle with yourself to get your workout done?

I loved my little banana burger for breakfast so much yesterday that I repeated it again this morning.

Banana Burger

Just as good as yesterday!  That almond butter is killer, I’m telling ya!

For lunch I decided it was time to try Carba Nada pasta, sent to me by the beautiful Dawn at Blonde on a Mission.

I cooked the pasta and topped it with Prego pasta sauce last night, so at work I just needed to heat that puppy up in the microwave (some baby carrots on the side rounded out my meal).

I am in love!  This pasta is amazing!  And actually, I liked it so much I repeated it for dinna.

Topped with Prego once again, along with some parmesan cheese, and a whole lotta broccoli filled the bottom of my pasta bowl!

Big fan of this pasta, right here.

I had some regular egg noddle pasta handy, so I did a little stat comparison.  For the same amount, Carba Nada has 60 fewer calories, 4 more grams of protein, and 16 less grams of carbs.  Not too shabby, my friends.  Not too shabby at all.  Ohh how I wish this was available in Canada, but I haven’t seen it anywhere.  I guess I’m going to have to buck up and order it online.

Something else I wish was available in Canada…

As soon as I arrived home from work today I went straight for that almond butter, stuck my finger in the jar, and then stuck my finger in my face.  Amazing with a capital A and a capital MAZING.  Cannot get enough.

Annnnnd I am out.  Hope you all have le fab evening!

  1. Haha – your cartoons are amazing. I’ve been in that exact same situation before. Sometimes sleep really is the best choice and other times running is. It’s always tough to know (especially that early in the morning!). Congrats on getting it done – I’m glad it was the right choice for you 🙂

  2. Girl, you look fabulous for just finishing a 5:30 am run! I can not wake up and workout…my body refuses to get up before 6:30 unless I am traveling somewhere lol. I’ll have to keep trying, but sleep always wins for me! Or I will say that I will only sleep one more minute, and wake up an hour later.

  3. I can’t believe you went BACK to bed, and STILL got up and ran! AMAZING!

  4. I have totally played that tug-o-war with the idea of getting out of bed and running versus staying asleep for another hour and a half. I think you’re awesome for getting out of bed and making it happen. There has never been a workout that I’ve completed that I’ve regretted. AWSEOME!

  5. Great job getting out of bed especially in the rain! I have so much trouble with it but I know I feel better when I do get up and workout – there must be something wrong with me 🙂

I do get so much inspiration from you with your fitness and food, I love reading your blog plus it is always really funny – love those pictures.

  6. I was wondering if I could use your pic of you all wet with “greaseball hair”? I have a list of favourite posts and would love to put a photo of you with it!

  7. I love your drawings, so cute and hilarious!! Way to go with getting that run completed, even in the rain 🙂

  8. Aww, supercongrats on getting your run in! And your cartoon is abso-freakin-lutely hysterical!

  9. Hhaha I love your drawings! And I have that struggle every morning. I can’t wake up at 5:30 to exercise, ever… so 4.5k is very impressive! And yes, thank god it hasn’t been feeling like I’m on fire every time I go outside lately.
Is it weird that it hadn’t even occurred to me to just put regular pasta sauce on the carba nada? Um. Yeah, I definitely need to do that now. Looks so good!

  10. Great job at getting out there and running! I recently discovered Justin’s almond butter and that stuff is AMAZING!

  11. Omg haha…I love those cartoons :). I do have an inner struggle sometimes, and then I usually feel so much better if I actually go workout. Btw, check out my first giveaway I’m doing!

  12. Way to get up and go! I had a similar morning and was so annoyed that I started 15 minutes late because I was trying to formulate excuses to not exercise. Your cartoons are fabulous, btw!

  13. You’ll have to teach me your cartoon making magic one day. I’ve tried since day 1 of blogging to create some cutenss with the paint program….. no dice.

I’m also super impressed that you won the bed battle! I never do but I also take FOREVER to wake up.

  14. Your frame “but IS sleep greater than run?” cracks me up so much. I’m definitely still in sleep>run mode. Maybe when summer comes round I’ll incorporate some morning exercise instead of evenings. Will be trying your quinoa recipe sometime soon yum!

  15. Definitely know the feeling of the inner struggle to get up and do it. I started running last year and ran my first 5K this year in May. Since then I have been slacking and can’t run 5K straight anymore LOL. I’m trying to get back into it but it’s been so hot and I go after work around 4pm so it’s still pretty ridiculously hot (being close to Toronto I’m sure you know).

Great job though – your meals look great.

  16. Love, as always, the drawings. They are awesome and so funny!!
What is this Carba nada stuff?
I have never been good with getting up to exercise. I need to make myself go right after work. It is still just as hard as getting up. Really, sometimes, no matter what time of day, you need to force yourself to work out.
