Pumpkin Pie Yogurt and a PDR

Bonjour mes amies!

So for the past couple of days I have felt a little funky. Not sick, and not depressed, but just not quite like myself. Just a bit off. I doubt anyone noticed, and I can only describe it as having kind of a foggy brain. Do you ever feel like that, like you’re functioning in a cloud?

I thought maybe it was because I was tired from the weekend, so I went to bed early last night hoping that I would feel back to normal. I was a-okay this morning, but after lunch the cloud set in. I felt unproductive and just slow at doing things.

In an effort to lift the fog from my brain, when I got home from work today I immediately changed into my running clothes and headed out for a run.

It was perfect weather. Beautifully sunny, and about 20 degrees C (why couldn’t it have been this nice on Sunday?!). I felt good as soon as I started running, which is rare for me. I didn’t have to talk myself into it, or trick myself to keep going. I didn’t have to play “I WIN“, or fantasize about what I was going to eat for dinner. I just ran.

I was feeling good at the street I would usually turn at if I wanted to do 4k, so I kept going. And then I got to the street that I would turn at if I wanted to do 5k, and I was still feeling it, so I decided to just go with it.

I ended up running for 7 kilometres. That, my friends, is a personal distance record. I did it in about 45 minutes, and I only stopped running once at a traffic light. I never, ever thought I would be able to run that far.

I felt a million times better when I was done. My cloud lifted. I felt energized, even though I was fatigued. And best of all, I felt like I had accomplished something!

You are just one workout away from a good mood. It is so, so true. I feel so much better now. What if I had just given in to the funk and laid around on the couch? I would probably feel worse. I am so happy I got out there, and then kept going.

Pumpkin Yogurt?

I would  just like to take a moment to highlight my mid-morning snack…

What is This?

Pumpkin pie yogurt. How gross does that look? It looks like baby food, or worse, I know this, but it was DELICIOUS. I actually may now be obsessed with pumpkin. How did I not eat it for 15 years?! I am craving it all the time now! I love it!

In my pumpkin yogurt is PC Honey Greek yogurt, a few spoonfuls of canned pumpkin, a teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, and a bit of brown sugar. It needed something a little crunchy, like granola or nuts or something, but as-is, it was GOOD. I promise you. And it was ridiculously filling!

I’ve seen a ton of other bloggers doing the pumpkin yogurt thang, and I used to cringe when I saw it…but I am so glad I tried it out.

Off to do some weekday chores. Hurrah.

Have a great night!

Do you ever feel like you’re in a funk? How do you get out of it?

  1. Can you make this dairy free?

  2. Wow! I’ve been in the same cloud funk this week too! So tired and feeling unproductive. Hoping it passes soon. 🙂

Amen sista. Working out is one of those things that never sounds good at first, but once you get going it’s practically a miracle how great you feel! Great work talking yourself into getting out there 🙂

  4. 7kms!!!! Awesome run, congratulations. Love your workout outfit too.

What gets me out of a funk is reading blogs like yours. I find yours really motivating. I know you don’t absolutely love running (yet), but I know that you do it anyway and how good you feel when finishing. Reading your stories is what helps to me to get up off my butt and go and do some kind of a workout 🙂

    • Thank you Jane, this comment means a lot to me. Actually, reading it may have permanently ended my funk. It helped me remember why I started my blog in the first place 🙂
And yeah, no. I don’t love running, but I love the way it makes me feel!

  5. When I feel like that, I drink a hot cup of tea and go to bed early. Yeah, I know, I’m half motivational speaker and half wild child.

  6. Yay! Awesome job on the run :). And yes, I totally feel that way sometimes…it happens. And that yogurt sounds really tasty. I love that you’re totally jumping on the pumpkin train now

  7. I was in a MAYJAH funk last week. The weather was getting very cold and I was just feeling so down about everything. I just started feeling better on Sunday and that was just because I was having fun with friends. This week will be better, I can feel it.
Congrats on your 7k!!! That’s ridiculous. The fact that it was so spontaneous was probably so much better. Thinking sucks sometimes.
    I’m glad you’re feeling better =)
And I’m all aboot the pumpkin yogurt baby food. I love pairing it with graham crackers.

    • I think it had something to do with the weather! Stupid cold weather…stupid funks!
Thanks, and I totally think it was the spontaneity that made the run possible. If I had been planning to run that far I would have been hating it the whole time.
I remember your pumpkin cheesecake yogurt with graham crackers! I am going to have to pick some of those babies up.

  8. Workouts are great for breaking out of a funk…I do that too, or try and think of things to be grateful for, or do something to help someone else. And kudos on the PDR…awesome! Love the pumpkin pie yogurt too…try as a dip for apples or pears, also great mixed with fruit and cereal on top…so good!

  9. Wooohoo for PDR’s! That’s a great time for a 7k – enjoy the well-deserved runner’s high 🙂

  10. Woohoo! I am running my 1st 5k this weekend and I hope I don’t fall over. lol I LOVE pumpkin, so I will def be making the pumpkin yogurt! Sorry you were in a funk, but glad you are out of it. I am sometimes and your blog helps me! So thanks girly!! 🙂

  11. Just found your blog and I really like it!
I’ve been feeling off the last couple of days too – no idea why, maybe there’s something in the water? Also, I “make” pumpkin yogurt the same way – plain yogurt, canned pumpkin, pumpkin spice and honey. My husband thinks it’s totally weird but I love it 🙂

  12. Distance FOR THE WIN! Awesome job and THANK YOU, seriously, for the comment on my blog today. Last night was a crapfest, and it’s good to know that people care. haha. I appreciate it.

  14. OGM. I have totally felt like this the past few days, the baby version. Maybe it was weather related or something. I am now in Regina relaxing with my family and feeling better.
Working out always makes me feel better too.
Sad you have left the pumpkin hating club. I was going to make you VP. Oh well. Enjoy your pumpkin.
